Republic of Ireland – East
Ancient province of Leinster
The eastern part of Ireland is dominated by the capital of the Republic, Dublin, a charming, lively and cosmopolitan city. Dublin is by far the largest city in Ireland with about one third of the 4M inhabitats of the Republic living here. However there is also dramatic and empty landscape in the Wicklow mountains south of the city and to the north you will find some of the finest ancient monuments in Europe. The passage grave at Newgrange was built in about 3500 BC, before Stonehenge!
