England - East Anglia

Counties: Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex.

Principal towns: Norwich, Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge and Ely.

Most of East Anglia is flat and low lying. In the fens and broads (marsh land and waterways) with windmills dotted around, you could be forgiven for thinking you had crossed the channel to the Netherlands.

With so much water, boating is a major activity in all its forms. If you would like a slow paced, relaxing holiday, a canal boat might appeal. For the bird watchers there are a huge number of bird species. The Norfolk coast, although remote, is particularly beautiful and unspoiled.

Cambridge is the most significant city, home to the ancient Cambridge University (founded in 1209) and its beautiful old college buildings.
