Yorkshire is a large county and one of the most sparsely populated. It has a wide variety of landscapes.

The Yorkshire Dales are characterised by lush green rolling farmland, with stone walling, narrow lanes, rivers, streams and waterfalls. Perfect walking country.

The North Yorkshire Moors have beautiful, bleak moorland interspersed with steep lush valleys. The area is peppered by many medieval abbey ruins.

York itself is a lovely old city, retaining much of its old world charm. Ancient houses on narrow winding streets (the Shambles - where the inhabitants could shake hands from the upstairs windows) and the magnificent York Minster, Britain's largest medieval cathedral.
