In my last post I spoke of my discovery of Lydney Harbour. Further on in the same journey I stopped by Tintern Abbey.

Now this is somewhere I have visited before but not recently. I was reminded that here is one of the most beautiful abbey ruins in the country set in the Wye Valley, one of the most beautiful steep wooded valleys in England. You can see why the Cistercian monks chose this spot in the 14th century to build their second abbey in this country.
They must have drawn inspiration daily from the scenery around them.
