A question we are frequently asked is when is the best time to visit Britain and/or Ireland?
The answer as always is ‘it depends’. Each season has its’ pros and cons.
The period from November through to March has the least to offer. The days are short, the weather is often dull, although rarely really cold (don’t expect to see snow unless you are in the high hills in the north) and many attractions shut from October to March. The plus is that from December until February the city centres and shops are decorated for Christmas. However, staying in a hotel over the Chrsitmas period can be very expensive and B&Bs are mostly shut.
The weather usually starts to pick up in April. The attractions re-open in time for the Easter holidays and the spring flowers start to appear. May and June are our favourite months, with the green freshness of spring and floral displays in the hedgerows and gardens.
July and August are usually the warmest months. The summer flowers have bloomed. The downside is that the English children are on holiday from mid July to the end of August so the major tourist attractions and family beach locations are crowded. However if you want to get off the beaten track it is still a good time, as long as you book early!
September can be a lovely month. We often have an Indian Summer. October can also be nice, although less predictable, and the Autumn colours appear, but some of the attractions will start to shut.
Hope this helps!
